The Tibetan master Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche crossing the 16,000 foot Gosé-La pass in Eastern Tibet, near Derge. The name means 'White Hair Pass:' it is said that even if you set out to climb it with black hair, your hair will have turned white by the time you reach the top. Khyentse Rinpoche traveled in a sedan chair, carried by local people from villages along the way, all eager to take turns of some fifteen minutes. They walked at such a speed that the rest of his party, even those carrying nothing, found it difficult to keep up with them. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche (1910-1991) was one of the great masters of Tibetan Buddhism. He was a principal teacher of the present Dalai Lama. 1988.
