MR13 Monks at Shechen

Tibetan monks from Shechen Monastery, their cheeks reddened by the icy wind of Eastern Tibet. Their white hats, made of cotton on a bamboo frame, are worn as a traditional sign of welcome. These riders have come in procession to greet Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche – on his return to Eastern Tibet in 1985 after more than thirty years in exile – and escort him on the last five kilometers of the route to the monastery.
