At 4,600 meters above sea-level (15,000 feet) and with an area of 320 square kilometers, Lake Manasarovar is the highest freshwater lake in the world. Situated near Mount Kailash and the Gurla Mandata, which rises at 7728m (25,350 feet) is also knows as 'the Invincible Turquoise Lake', 'Anavatapta', 'Lake of Eternal Freshness' and 'Lake of the Divine Lotus'. Pilgrims take four days to walk around the sacred lake. Eastern Tibet, 1998.
