Clouds of incense smoke rise above the plain below Shechen Monastery in eastern Tibet. The smoke is an offering to ensure the prosperity of the monastery and the lay community that lives around it. Nomad horsemen gallop around the cairn on which the incense has been laid, calling noisily on the local deities: “Kiki soso la gyalo” (“May the gods be victorious over all obstacles.”) 2002.
