The fine-art prints presented here at Photoby are made by us, in our studio. We have been printing fine-art prints for over 9 years.
The photographer’s participation The photographer takes an important role in the printing process, starting with the selection of his best photographs. Then, with test-prints, he directs the fine-tuning of the prints until they match exactly his vision of how he wants them to look. This assures the continuity from the photo shoot to the printed photo. All the prints are appoved by the photographer before they are offered on the website.
Signed prints Each print is signed by the photographer. Signatures are placed outside of the photographs, in the margin, on the lower right side.
Limited Editions When it is a limited edition, each print is numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity. If a photograph is is printed as a limited edition, it is specified on its information page, with the number of prints made for this edition.
Permanence rating Print permanence testing, with our combination of fine-art papers and pigment inks, have been conducted by Wilhelm Imaging Research. The results show that, under good conservation conditions, the prints’ permanence ratings are several generations. The permanence ratings are based on accelerated light stability tests. Data represents the years of display before noticing fading, changes in color balance, and/or staining to occur.
Technique We use the most recent professional inkjet technologies to offer the highest quality available today. The Epson 9800 printer has a maximum resolution of 2880x1440 dpi, and uses an innovating variable-sized dropplet technology.
Papers We have selected two prestigious award-winning professional papers for their true vibrant color reproduction. -Watercolor paper: it is a matte, pure bright white, 100% cotton, and 0,5mm thick (310gsm) acid-free, smooth soft velvet surface. (photo below)
-Luster paper: it is a semi-glossy, photographic surface for photo feel close to traditional silver halide prints, (260gsm) resin coated base. Luster E surface finish.
Inks The inks, UltraChrome K3, are pigment based and archival.
Environment Unlike traditional printing process, this inkjet technique does not involve chemical baths of silver-halide.
Print sizes The sizes refer to the image size. There are borders of white unprinted paper all around the photograph itself. The sheet of paper is larger than the photograph.
Framing tips The fine-art prints are fragile: they are sensitive to water and humidity, they can also dent easily. So please unpack and manipulate them very carefully. We recommend that you leave them in the package until you are at your framing shop. Do not use acid or liquid based products on the prints. For glass, a UV protected is better. Your framer can give you advice.
