MR3423 The bridge over the River Kyichu, near Paro, in Bhutan, was built under the auspices of the Queen Mother of Bhutan, Ashe Kesang Choden Wangchuk, using iron components from a number of other bridges, now in ruins, constructed by the great Tibetan master and bridge maker Thangtong Gyalpo (1361-1485?). The huge iron links came originally from Bhutan and Tibet and, although they have been around for centuries, they have never rusted. The building on the hillside, Damchö Lhakang, was one of Thangtong Gyalpo’s residences. October 2011. ::
