Tibetan nomadic woman inside a yak hair tent. In the center of the tent is the hearth whose smoke escapes through an opening in the roof. Around it are thick, hard, flat cushions covered with woolen carpets. On an altar, a butter lamp shines a golden light on a statue of the Buddha, flanked by photographs of the Dalai Lama and local spiritual masters. During the winter months, they spend much of their time reciting mantras and prayers, and offering thousands of prostrations. A harsh winter for sure: the thermometer can go down to -30 °C, sometimes -40 °C. July 2016.
